July 23, 2008 by goworkoutYou exercise for more specific reasons than just staying fit. You might jog to clear your mind, tone your thighs, or keep up with your kids. Maybe you hike to burn off steam or more likely, burn off dinner. Perhaps you hit the gym to make your shirt sleeves tighter, or swim laps to shed those extra pounds. No matter the reason, you know you’ll feel better when you’re done. There are certainly more enjoyable things to do with an hour of your day, but you know getting a good sweat in helps you better enjoy the other 23. You push, pull, stretch, swing, jump, pedal, and dive because it gets you that much closer to your goals, whatever they may be. At times your mind and body will tell you to stop. What will you do? Go.

Sports World Observations from Go Workout Apparel
July 6, 2008 by goworkoutI have nothing against tennis, but I was watching Wimbledon today and thought, “Man, I’m bored!” I miss NFL football (Arena doesn’t do it for me) and NBA basketball (sorry WNBA). As a sports fan in general, I was slightly intrigued with the Wimbledon Men’s Final. The top two players in the world (Federer and Nadal), who have quite a rivalry in the works, were in a tight battle. I certainly thought the two would have looked much better wearing Go Workout Apparel moisture wicking outfits! You can purchase Go Workout Apparel clothing at www.goworkoutapparel.com.
I never thought I could feel bad for a guy who made $20 million to pitch PART of the season last year, but wow, has Roger Clemens got himself into a bind. When the ESPN sports ticker running along the bottom of the screen has the following categories followed with related info: MLB…NFL…NASCAR…NBA…Clemens…, you know you’re in trouble!
Speaking of ESPN, I have to admit-and I can’t be alone on this- Stuart Scott officially annoys the shiznit out me. He’s gotten WAY too big for his britches. Having to hear about his college intramural squad for years was bad enough, but I think his reporting skills are declining now. He overdoes the useless facts tidbits about teams and athletes. For example, during the NBA Finals, he pointed out that a teams general manager used to play in the NBA like it was the strangest thing. I would estimate half of the GM’s in the league are former players. Stuart, those odd looks and awkward moments of silence after you speak from your fellow announcers aren’t solely due to that dark rimmed glasses cover up attempt of the lazy eye my friend.

June 30, 2008 by goworkoutBefore we return to my take on the world of sports, I’d like to remind everyone to shop www.goworkoutapparel.comfor fantastic deals on women’s and men’s fitness apparel and accessories!!
We left off with the 2008 NBA Finals about to tip off. Now that the smoke has cleared, and everyone (led by Shaq) have taken their shots at Kobe Bryant, it’s my turn! Rightfully so, comparisons between Bryant and Michael Jordan were swirling throughout the playoffs. However, some glaring differences became obvious on the NBA’s main stage. First, say what you want about Kobe’s supporting cast, they have as much, if not more, talent than any of Jordan’s squads that won 6 titles. Jordan helped turn Scottie Pippen into one of the 50 best players in the history of the NBA. Kobe can’t say the same about Lamar Odom, who has all the physical tools of Pippen. Kobe and Odom seemed to disappear during crucial stretches in the Finals, stretches when you knew Jordan or Pippen would have taken over. Remember when Jordan had the flu and could barely walk onto the court during the Finals (against the Jazz, I believe)? He still controlled the game. I get the feeling if either Kobe or Lamar had so much as a hang nail, they would need a night off, even during the Finals.
Congrats to the Celtics, who relied on good old fashioned defense to bring home their first title in 24 years. It’s hard not to like Kevin Garnett as a player and for his respect of the game. While his post game interviewing skills could use some work, he certainly deserves the be called a champion. His intensity reminds me of the NFL’s Ray Lewis. Neither of these two are their teams most talented player, but make no mistake, they are their teams leader.

Now back to the world of sports:
I watched the 1987 NBA Finals matchups between the Lakers and Celtics on ESPN Classic today. My first thought was, “Wow, those are short shorts!”, but my next and overriding thought was, “Man, these are two great teams.”
Think about the starting lineups for both teams. For the Lakers you have Magic Johnson, Byron Scott, A.C. Green, James Worthy, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The Celtics start with Dennis Johnson, Danny Ainge, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parrish. Talk about two All-Star teams! Any basketball fan knows all ten of those names well. Think fast, can you name the starting five for this year’s versions of the Lakers and Celtics?
You know what else was great about those classic Lakers-Celtics battles? They HATED each other!
Here’s hoping this year’s Finals are all they’re hyped up to be, and new legends are born.

May 25, 2008 by goworkoutAnyone else quickly growing tired of Danica Patrick? Thanks to ‘Go Daddy’, she’s portrayed as a sex symbol. But when her mouth opens, all I hear is Tom Boy. Following the Indy 500 today, it was reported that security had to hold her back from confronting another driver she blames for her abrubt departure from the race. Danica, to quote a great sports movie, ”You’re five feet nothing, a hundred and nothing!”
Having watched UFC’s latest pay per view last night, it’s plain to see why it’s growing so quickly. No, it’s not “Annoying Joe Rogan” shoving the mike in the face of the exhausted fighter’s faces after each match. It’s the possibilty of something amazing, yet grotesque happening at any second of a fight. On two occasions I looked away from a bout last night, and of course missed two knockout blows! It keeps you on your toes like no other sport. Another draw to MMA, specifically the UFC, is the refreshing honesty of it’s president, Dana White. When asked why it was Tito Ortiz’s last fight under contract, White stated (in a nutshell), “Because Tito is an idiot.” How cool would it be to hear NBA commisioner David Stern respond to why Ron Artest was suspended so long a couple season’s ago, as “Because Ron’s an idiot”? To be fair, though he’s a bit over the top for me, I do like Joe Rogan. He’s very knowledgeable and a good fit for the UFC.
Speaking of announcers, does anyone else miss hearing (and seeing) Bill Walton during the NBA telecasts? Me either.
If one were to break down the monstrous salary of San Francisco Giant ace Barry Zito to calculate how much he’s made per victory this season…um, we’ll have to get back to you that.
For those of you fantasy football nuts out there (how many days left until the draft?), let me point out what your line of thinking SHOULD be while tracking the Marvin Harrison debacle: “I can’t wait to draft Reggie Wayne, baby!”
